Eating Right for Health & Happiness
Getting your family eating right is one of the most powerful ways to improve everyone’s health and happiness.
It doesn’t have to be hard work or complicated either. Healthy eating doesn’t mean slaving away in the kitchen for hours on end – but it does require you to spend some time in the kitchen. A healthy diet based on traditional and nourishing foods is not boring and a million miles from tasteless and bland.
I am a huge fan of what I call “the baby steps” approach to eating right. Make small and frequent changes to the way you cook and eat rather than trying to change everything at once.
Making huge changes in one go is overwhelming and enormously stressful to everyone in the house. Not to mention expensive. It’s also not necessary for most people, unless you’ve been diagnosed with a severe and life threatening illness.
If you want to eat healthy for the rest of your life, start off by making one change each month. By the time the next month rolls around, the previous months change will be a normal part of your routine. It may sound too slow for you, especially if you’re motivated and inspired to nourish and nurture your family back to optimum health – I promise you that this will only last about 2 weeks before you’re feeling totally overwhelmed and stressed, the kids will start complaining about all the sudden changes and you’ll go straight back to what you where doing before.
Each family will have different priorities depending upon the health of each family member but as a general rule the following guide will work for most families. Some of the changes are associated with extra costs involved in purchasing equipment, most of these are a one off cost and is another reason to make small and incremental changes so the extra costs are spread over several months rather than all at once.
